Wallpaper

Wallpaper doesn’t have to be outdated and boring.  If used properly, wallpaper can add a lot of personality to your home. Use it on an accent wall or in a hallway.   Second Hand Rose has a lot of vintage inspired designs that I love.

Kromex

I’ve often come across vintage aluminum kitchen items on my thrifting adventures but never knew much about where the items came from. I recently saw these canisters listed on Etsy and decided to do a little more searching online to discover some other mid-century aluminum treasures.

Mid Century Martha

Martha Stewart recently debuted her new line of furniture at the High Point Market this year. Her new collection features a lot of mid-century inspired furniture and updated versions of classic pieces. I’m a sucker for wood and gold combinations and tufted couches. I also love the incorporation of pattern and texture with basic white and gray colors as shown below in the Ikat armchair and rug.

The High Point Market is going on through April 26 in North Carolina and is a hub for home furnishings and interior design.

20th Century Cincinnati

My husband and I attended 20th Century Cincinnati this past Saturday. It was truly a vintage mecca. Most of the vendors sold mid-century items and there were a few Art Deco booths as well.  One of my favorite things was the special exhibit about Bakelite. I’ve never seen so many Bakelite radios in one place! There was also a lot of Bakelite jewelry on display along with some backgammon games and silverware.

Heywood-Wakefield

Heywood-Wakefield Company was established in 1826 as a producer of wicker and rattan furniture.  They began creating wood furniture during the Arts and Crafts movement with sleek modern designs that continued through the 1930s in the French Art Deco style. They are most well known for their mid-century modern style furniture pieces which are also the most common Heywood-Wakefield items that you’ll find today. My friend Camille has a mid-century Heywood-Wakefield coffee table in her home almost identical to the one below but I know she didn’t spend anywhere close to $900! (remember… estate sales!)

Flea Off Market

The Flea Off Market is a once-a-month outdoor bazaar that will take place in the heart of Louisville, off Market on Shelby Street. There will be dozens of vendors each month offering a wide variety of tantalizing wares. There will be books, records, bicycles, kittens, antiques, cool old junk, used tools, fine arts and crafts, fresh-cut-flowers, esoterica, live music, and entertainments for all ages (bring the kids!) The Flea Off Market will also have food trucks selling toothsome delights and plenty of refreshing alcoholic beverages.

So come on down to The Flea Off Market! It will happen the second Saturday of every month, along Shelby Street and in the lot next to Salvo Collective, 216 South Shelby Street (between Market and Nanny Goat Strut Alley).

The next market will be tomorrow, December 10th from 12:00-5:00 PM. Fly Away Fox will be there selling all kinds of vintage stuff! Here’s a sampling of our vintage inventory to give you a taste of what to expect tomorrow!

Mad Men Party

I recently hosted a Mad Men themed party to celebrate some of my close friends’ birthdays. We had a costume contest complete with vintage prizes, mid-century themed food and antiquated cocktails! My friends Tim and Camille won best costume and went home with the fabulous prizes in the photo below. Check out some photos below taken by me and my friend Audra!

Green Haus – 1 Year Anniversary

Green Haus is a fabulous business located on Preston Street in Louisville. They sell vintage furniture, local art, wine, beer, succulent plants, vinyl records, etc. It’s an eclectic mix of modern and vintage. It’s their one year anniversary today and they’re having a celebration starting at 4PM.  Stop by to sample food, wine, chocolate and coffee!

Check out some photos of their space and like them on Facebook!

Salton

I recently bought a vintage Salton hot food tray at a yard sale for $1! Salton is a brand that started making appliances in Canada in the 1950s. I think my food tray is from the 1960s based on color and design.  This hot plate not only warms your food but also looks good on the table! I’m excited to use it when I host my Mad Men party in a few weeks!
