Matryoshka Dolls

My parents are constantly traveling around the world and recently my father came back from Russia with gifts! I received a gift of Russian chocolates, tea, coffee and of course… Matryoshka dolls! Matryoshka or Russian Nesting Dolls refer to a set of wooden figures of decreasing size placed one inside the other. They’re beautiful and a fun way to add some color to your home.

Poppytalk Handmade

Poppytalk Handmade is an online curated marketplace offering some of the best designs worldwide.  Exhibitions change each month consistently offering fresh new designs. Any artist may submit their work to be included and it’s worth the try because Poppytalk receives traffic of approximately 1 million pageloads a month!

Poppytalk Handmade promotes each chosen artist on the front page and also offers them a separate page where they may include a biography and photographs of their work. Poppytalk sends consumers directly to the artist’s online shop so that the sellers may buy directly from the artist.

The new exhibition launches on June 4 so hurry up and check out these current items before they disappear! Here are a few of my favorites.

Owl Print by Gingiber, Terrariums Print by Small Talk Studio, Safari Rubber Stamps by Wee Gallery, Pops I Photography by September Wren

Fair Trade Gift Registries

Spring is huge for weddings and babies!  When you’re planning where to register, you should think of Just Creations. A Fair Trade and non-profit store, Just Creations offers a variety of items for everything including weddings, babies, anniversaries, birthdays, and of course Mother’s Day! Just Creations is kicking off their gift registries with an event this Saturday (May 12) from 10AM-6PM. There will be refreshments and a variety of gift baskets available to help give you ideas for your own registry or to help you find that special gift for someone special.

By shopping or helping other shop at Just Creations, you’re giving back in three big ways.

  • you’re buying local and supporting a Louisville business
  • you’re shopping ‘green’ because most of the products are made with recycled or re-purposed materials
  • you’re supporting artisans all across the globe and helping them earn a fair wage for their work

Check out some of these great wedding items including gifts for your bridesmaids, cute hair accessories for your flower girl and  gorgeous blown glass goblets for toasting!

Here are some great Mother’s Day gift ideas!

Make sure you stop by Just Creations this weekend to see how you can incorporate Fair Trade into your big event.

Just Creations is located in the heart of Crescent Hill at 2722 Frankfort Avenue.

I love browsing the kickstarter website looking for interesting projects. I was looking through the fashion category and stumbled upon Kordal. Kordal is based in New York and is a knitwear clothing company. Their project on kickstarter is to raise $10,000 by May 18 to help launch the 2013 Spring collection and attend the Capsule Trade Show in New York City.

I think their items are beautifully crafted and I love the idea of combining high end style with comfort. Watch their video here and maybe you’ll be inspired to donate! They have a great selection of knitted incentives including ties, bracelets, hats and sweaters!

DIY Louisville is Louisville’s first alternative craft group.  The group meets every 1st & 3rd Tuesday each month at Sunergos Coffee on Woodlawn Avenue. Their blog features great tutorials, recipes and more!

Flea Off Market

Tomorrow I’ll be selling at the April Flea Off Market, a once-a-month outdoor bazaar that will take place in the heart of Louisville, off Market on Shelby Street. There will be dozens of vendors each month offering a wide variety of items you’ll want to bring home! There will be books, records, bicycles, kittens, antiques, cool old junk, used tools, fine arts and crafts, fresh-cut-flowers, esoterica, live music, food trucks and entertainments for all ages.

The Flea Off Market is held on the second Saturday of every month, along Shelby Street and in the lot next to Salvo Collective, 216 South Shelby Street (between Market and Nanny Goat Strut Alley). The event lasts from 12-6PM.

Fly Away Fox will be selling a large variety of vintage and handmade items. Here’s a little preview.
