Matryoshka Dolls

My parents are constantly traveling around the world and recently my father came back from Russia with gifts! I received a gift of Russian chocolates, tea, coffee and of course… Matryoshka dolls! Matryoshka or Russian Nesting Dolls refer to a set of wooden figures of decreasing size placed one inside the other. They’re beautiful and a fun way to add some color to your home.

Poppytalk Handmade

Poppytalk Handmade is an online curated marketplace offering some of the best designs worldwide.  Exhibitions change each month consistently offering fresh new designs. Any artist may submit their work to be included and it’s worth the try because Poppytalk receives traffic of approximately 1 million pageloads a month!

Poppytalk Handmade promotes each chosen artist on the front page and also offers them a separate page where they may include a biography and photographs of their work. Poppytalk sends consumers directly to the artist’s online shop so that the sellers may buy directly from the artist.

The new exhibition launches on June 4 so hurry up and check out these current items before they disappear! Here are a few of my favorites.

Emily Church

Emily Church is an emerging painter originally from Louisville but now living/working in Brooklyn. I first viewed her work in an exhibition at Galerie Hertz in Louisville, 2010. The exhibition included a series of paintings by Church featuring images from the forests of Slovenia.  I had never been more entranced by paintings of nature before. I love how she complements the lonely landscape with vivid yellows and greens; her use of color and perspective is enchanting. Below are a few images from that series, though the pictures do not do them justice. Each canvas measures 30″x30″ and the large paintings further support the artist’s desire to captivate the viewer.

Learn to Draw a Fox

I’m not a big fan of learning to draw by copying but these easy online tutorials are good because you can add your own style and change things a little bit to make your foxes unique. The first tutorial is my favorite. Just click on the pictures to visit the websites.

Vera Scarves

I love vintage scarves. They’re comfortable and versatile and a great way to spruce up any outfit! When shopping for vintage scarves, you’ve probably come across brightly colored scarves with geometric shapes and patterns with the name Vera or a ladybug in the corner. These are Vera Scarves, designed by artist Vera Neumann.
