Scarlet Hope Bedroom Makeover

It’s finally finished! My bedroom renovation at the Scarlet Hope house is complete. The Hope House is located in beautiful Crescent Hill and will serve as a transitional home for women in Louisville who want to leave the adult entertainment industry.

Scarlet Hope’s mission is to bring the Hope and Love of Jesus Christ to women in the adult entertainment industry. By sharing the gospel message with these women through action and words we are proclaiming the name of Jesus who is their only Hope to be free from bondage. Scarlet Hope provides resources such as transitional job change, housing, mentoring, transportation and drug rehabilitation.

Handmade Little Girl Aprons

I love aprons. I think they should be a part of everyday style.   I’ve recently started making aprons out of vintage and recycled fabrics for both adults and little girls. Today we’re showcasing some of the little girl aprons I’ve been creating. No two are exactly alike!  They come in a variety of sizes and colors fitting 2 year olds all the way up to 10-12 year olds! Below are some aprons in progress and a few of my finished items. Each one comes with a removable broach made out of felt and recycled material!

(obviously these photos would be better if some little girls were modeling them… 🙂 but I don’t have any little girls so these photos will have to do.) I will be selling at the Mama’s Hip Christmas Fair on December 4 and then at Nelligan Hall on December 17.

Cake Stands

Fly Away Fox has some new cake stands for sale! These stands are made with vintage plates (mostly 1970s Japanese stoneware) and vintage colored goblets. These stands are great as table centerpieces and can also hold pies, cookies, and savory hors d’oeuvres! Each one is unique and one-of-a-kind. Pick one up today for only $15!

Getting Married?

I celebrated my first wedding anniversary this month! We used mostly vintage and handmade items in the wedding so I thought I’d share some photos to help give other brides inspiration.

Pinterest

I know I’m a little late in the game but I finally got a Pinterest accountt! Follow our pins as we not only showcase designs and crafts but also local and regional design and crafts.  We’re going to use Pinterest as another way to highlight Kentucky artists and designers as well as the surrounding states! Let’s shop local together!

This astro turf/fake grass chair is from Crib Fashion but you find similar benches like this at Garage Bar on Market Street in downtown Louisville. To make your own just purchase some astro turf or fake grass from Home Depot or Lowes. They often have rolls for sale that have been cut wrong. All you need is an old bench or chair, a staple gun and some glue. It’s cheap and a fun way to dress up your outdoor furniture!

New Headbands

Check out these new colorful headbands that we’ll be selling on Etsy!  All of the headbands are made with vintage and/or repurposed fabrics.  We’ve got a variety of sizes and colors to fit any style.

Scarlet Hope – Bedroom Makeover

I’ve started a philanthropic design project decorating a bedroom in the Scarlet Hope house in Crescent Hill. Scarlet Hope is an organizing working with women in the sex industry. It’s a great program, and the only non-profit of its kind in Louisville.  They recently inherited a large mansion in Crescent Hill to serve as a home for women transitioning out of the sex industry.

My project is redecorating one of the bedrooms.  I’m responsible for taking down wallpaper, sanding the walls, painting, furniture, and decorating. Today I took down the old wall paper and spackled the walls to prep for sanding and painting next week. Here are some before shots of the room.

Follow Fly Away Fox’s journey as we transform this space into a welcoming bedroom. We’ll be restoring vintage furniture and creating handmade items – all fair trade, all local, and all fabulous.
