Crafting with DIY Louisville

Last night I finally had the chance to attend a DIY Louisville meet-up.  I’ve been wanting to go for awhile now and I’m glad I did. It was a lot of fun and I met a bunch of great ladies! DIY Louisville has monthly meet-ups. Follow them on Facebook so that you can find out about future meet-ups and follow their blog!

This month’s craft group was bring your own project so I brought materials to make a headband display for my work.  I had a styrofoam head from a craft store and I decoupaged old book pages onto it for a vintage look.

Last night was a great net-working opportunity and I learned about some cool websites that I want to share with you. – Do you like sending and receiving snail mail? Do you like writing letters, making crafts, or putting together fun packages? You should try swapping! Swap-bot is a online service that organizes group swaps and a community of creative individuals. Swap-bot takes the hassle out of participating in group swaps by organizing all of the participant information and doing all of the partner assignments. On Swap-bot, you can host swaps, join swaps, and chat with other swappers from all over the world. Give it a try!

Julep – toxin free nail polish and other beauty products.  They have a huge selection to choose from and you can subscribe to get monthly boxes in the mail that are chosen just for you!

I also learned about a new organization in town called Good Garbage Creative Reuse. It’s a new non-profit getting started that promotes sustainability and education in the community. They’re currently looking for a retail space to sell recycled items for reuse. I know I’ll be shopping there for supplies! Good Garbage Creative Reuse will be at a few upcoming art fairs running kids’ workshops and at the Flea Off Market this weekend. Check them out!
