Matryoshka Dolls

My parents are constantly traveling around the world and recently my father came back from Russia with gifts! I received a gift of Russian chocolates, tea, coffee and of course… Matryoshka dolls! Matryoshka or Russian Nesting Dolls refer to a set of wooden figures of decreasing size placed one inside the other. They’re beautiful and a fun way to add some color to your home.

Matryoshka Dolls were first created in 1890 and typically consist of five wooden dolls. The first one is usually a woman and the smallest one is often a baby but the figures in between can vary. Matryoshka Dolls are often hand carved and hand painted with the craftsmanship being passed down from generation to generation. Since the 1990s, production has decreased which is why I specifically asked my father to bring me a set. I now have two handmade sets from Russia, which help to provide a little piece of history and culture to my home.

I have a set of these Matryoshka measuring cups and I love them! You can get them on Amazon or at Why Louisville on Bardstown Road.

My sister recently purchased these Matryoshka Dolls prints from Amy Perotti on Etsy.
